Sustainable halal food supply chain management in a small rentier halal market

Purpose There is limited knowledge of the sustainable halal food supply management in Brunei Darussalam (Brunei), although it reputable economy and advocates United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Therefore, this paper highlights issues faced a small, rentier market proposes chain (SSCM) initiatives for halal-certified companies Brunei. Design/methodology/approach This draws data from published academic research employs normative narrative assessment SSCM literature. Findings Four propositions that could be implemented by businesses achieving SDGs are highlighted: responsible sourcing, environmental purchasing, packaging green transportation. Practical implications viewpoint provides basis “Brunei Vision 2035” through lens may increase well-being develop productive economy. It also lays foundation realising SDGs, specifically Goal 12 Consumption Production. Originality/value The dedicated attention to smaller markets, such as Brunei, would enrich literature, reveal unforeseen or address gaps domains chains.
